With this novel, bestselling author Patricia Cornwell created one of crime fiction's most compelling heroines: gutsy medical examiner Kay Scarpetta. It's a good book. It's got some good characters and a pretty cool story. Dr.Scarpetta has to deal with figuring out who the killer strangling all those women is, sexism, the case being sabotaged from the inside, her love life, her niece Lucy, leaks to the press, and her colleague Sergeant Marino. This book is great at portraying the stress that Dr.Scarpetta feels. The ending is pretty okay. I doesn't follow the traditional rules of a mystery book but it's an okay ending for the killer. And if the reader watches crime shows and has read other mystery books they can figure out who is sabotaging the case. Some parts of when Dr.Scarpetta is using forensic research are long and boring. Other than that it's an okay book. Would recommend this to people starting out in mystery or to someone that wants to read a not so old not so new mystery book.
