This unbiased assortment of revolutionary literature from the Declaration of Independence to the Communist Manifesto, provides a great balance of works from radically different political ideologies. While Common Sense and the Declaration of Independence were the foundational documents for what would become the most economically and militarily powerful nation in the world, the Communist Manifesto shaped the views and political outlook for millions during the 20th century. In fact, it can be argued that the most influential work in the 20th century was the Communist Manifesto, as it was a precursor to not only the Cold War, but it shaped the U.S. foreign policy in unprecedented ways. The fears of communism that gripped the western world were due solely to the theories and political philosophy that the manifesto encompassed. All the works in this book played hugely significant roles in their time and place, and all were important factors in shaping the world we live in today.
